How do I designate where my imported photos, organized in Events, appear in the Library Events window?

Mac OS 10.8.5

When I import photos from my iPhone, I label the individual Events while they are still in the Import window. When I change to the Events window, the new events appear at the very top/beginning of the library. In order to get these new events into chronological order, meaning they should be at the bottom of the window, I have to drag the new events down through multiple years and thousands of pictures. I can't find anything in Preferences that I can change to specify I want them added to the bottom, not the top. Or, stated a different way, is there a mechanism to ensure the library is organized in chronological order? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Larry, thank you for your suggestion. Unfortunately I can't check it out right now--for some reason iPhoto is crashing every time I try to launch it. Before it crashed I was able to find the version and it is 9.4.3. (FYI: I Repaired permissions and rebooted several times; it didn't have any effect.) When I get iPhoto back up and running, I'll post my results. Thank you again.
